A great headshot makes all the difference

Before I was a headshot photographer I worked in tech. And before I got my first job I spent countless hours on LinkedIn – building my profile, networking, meeting new people and applying for jobs.

I invested a lot of time and research into breaking into the job market – I took workshops with head hunters and hiring managers and asked them what they look for when combing through hundreds of LinkedIn profiles.

I know out of my own experience that the job market is brutal, so… what is the difference between another resume dropped in the bucket and getting noticed?

On LinkedIn, your headshot makes your first impression for you.

A hiring manager decides in a matter of seconds if you move forward in the interview process. This decision is social, it is subconscious, and it is quick.

Of course your background, experience, education, and current role are important… but people are social creatures, and naturally – when given the choice between two people with similar background and experience – they lean towards the person who looks more approachable.

Now, it depends on what you are going for. I make sure to understand this when working with clients…

What do you want your headshot to say about you?

A great headshot says that you take yourself seriously. You deserve to be here and you have self respect. This demands respect from others.
